In 2012, we decided to turn our long cherished dream into reality and move to Italy to start an agriturismo. We found a beautiful Italian region, Le Marche. With “we”, we mean Bert, Aaltje, Bram, and Jolein Steenbergen. And of course our dog, Max.
After a long search, we finally found this nice old farmhouse on the hills of Montefeltro in Mercatello sul Metauro. The farmhouse had served as an agriturismo before, but it needed some renovation to create more comfort and privacy. In the summer of 2013, we moved in and started to fix the house and the surroundings. Even if some of the work has now been done, still a lot has to happen to bring back the old magic that once existed in this house.
The name of the house is Ca’Betania. “Ca’” stands for “casa”, house, while Betania has been described in old manuscripts as:
"remarkably beautiful, the perfection of retirement and repose, of seclusion and lovely peace."
We have nothing to add to that.
